As spring semester class registration is gearing up, freshman Hope Cochran works on her schedule for the spring. Today, I was sitting in my French class hearing freshmen talk of how they registered earlier this week, today and even tomorrow. Why do freshman get to register first? It just seems unfair. Upperclassmen have paid their dues and deserve priority over incoming freshmen.
They are facing graduation and job applications while underclassmen still have time to figure that out. First priority goes to continuing students, of course. This is where it starts to get fishy. Continuing students are considered freshman going into their second semester or sophomore year. I believe they should base the continuation of students and their registration date on how far along they have made in progress.
It seems from hearing people talk and random periods of asking friends when they could register that everyone is based on the same.

With college admissions coming to a close, Senior Spring has fully descended upon campus. Senior Spring brings a certain relaxation to campus, at least among the graduating class. My daughter is a freshman and has started dating a senior. What should I do?
But you will be the only person alive who has sole custody of your life. Your particular life. Your entire life.
Whether they are cougars-in-training or just confident, girls say underclassmen are just plain nicer to date.
You seem to be browsing on a screen size, browser, or device that this website cannot support. Some things might look and act a little weird. For me and my friends, class year was an indicator of maturity, academic ability and social value. Your grade was a defining characteristic of your identity in high school, and as such, it was easy to tell by looks and personality what grade you were in.
It was refreshing to break free of high school grade constraints when I come to Bowdoin last year. For me, it was genuinely hard to determine what year someone was—looks or academic ability did not always equate to class year. There was a relative sense of equality between me and my upperclassman peers, which gave me the confidence to engage with them in meaningful ways. In fact, there are ways that class years have limited my friendships and relationships at Bowdoin—especially when it comes to hookups and dating.
For too many reasons to count, hook up and dating culture at Bowdoin is frustrating. In my experience, one of the most troublesome issues to navigate has been the power dynamics of hooking up with and dating upperclassmen. As an underclassman, my sexual relationships with upperclassmen, formal or informal, have been riddled with confusing problems. Time constraints, gender dynamics and degrees of experience are just some of the many issues that have placed undue pressure on sexual encounters.
One of the more aggressive problems has been when upperclassmen use their class year to assert power and dominance over me. The issue is not in being attracted to this type of partner or experience, but in how the partner chooses to use their grade to win affection and attention.

While it may be common to see students date students that are one year younger or older, students that date other students with a two, three, or higher year age difference is rarely seen in the school. However, many people accredit the lack of people dating significantly younger or older people to be a maturity problem. As students go through puberty, some mature slower than others and this sets the grades apart, and many upperclassmen cannot bear to deal with an immature significant other.
However, underclassmen are not all to blame. Upperclassmen have been known to have a view that dating someone far younger is morally wrong, and have been seen making fun of other upperclassmen who are dating someone younger than them. Jones met Cunningham while cheering for him on the cheer squad in a football game during the summer.
While Jones is a junior and Cunningham is a sophomore, they still manage to have a strong relationship after two months. Cumpas met Carter at an AHS home football game during her freshman year.
